Welcome Message - PYP Coordinator
Welcome to the 2016–2017 new academic school year here at NIC! I’m thrilled to welcome you to our community.
This year, we are excited for our upcoming International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) authorization visit, in which the IB will visit our school to verify that the IB’s educational principles, required standards and practices are in place and that the school is prepared to become an IB World School.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to…
- Develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people;
- Create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect;
- Develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment;
- Encourage students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners while understanding that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
NIC along with all IB schools around the world share a common philosophy…which is a commitment to high quality, challenging, and international education that focuses on the needs of the whole child both within and beyond the classroom. This program uses guided inquiry as its main method of learning.
At NIC, we want the students to learn to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective.
These attributes constitute what is known as the IB Learner Profile. They help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. In all areas of our school, the teachers and staff model these attributes. Learning experiences are created so that the students are able to develop these characteristics. The learner profile helps teachers and students establish goals, plan units of inquiry, and assess performance.
We look forward to partnering with parents to provide the best experience possible for your child’s education here at NIC.
